AKADEMIYA2063 and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), in partnership with the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), are convening a hybrid event to debate and promote the findings of the Africa Agriculture Trade Monitor (AATM) 2024. As in prior editions, the seventh AATM provides improved trade statistics, uses consistent indicators to monitor trends, and provides deeper insights into Africa’s participation in global trade and the status of intra-African trade.

The AATM contributes to our understanding of African agricultural trade and its relationship with food and nutrition security in several important ways. This edition focuses on the impact of climate change on African agrifood trade patterns. It examines topics such as the carbon footprint of agrifood trade, intra-African trade in virtual water, and the fruit and vegetable value chains. The year’s report also includes a look at regional trade integration and trade costs in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Objectives:

This formal launch of the AATM will convene a diverse set of experts from the research and development community, the public and private sectors, representatives from international and regional organizations and other stakeholder groups for a discussion on the nexus of climate change and agrifood trade in Africa.
