Concept note

AKADEMIYA2063, in collaboration with the Pan-African Farmers Organization (PAFO), and the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP), is organizing a side event on October 24 as part of the 53rd Plenary Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS53). Titled “Accelerating the Implementation of the Kampala Declaration for Agrifood Systems Transformation: Lessons from the Country-Level,” the event builds on ongoing efforts to domesticate the 2025 Kampala Declaration, which offers a framework for inclusive, evidence-based, and accountable transformation of agrifood systems. In Kenya and Togo, AKADEMIYA2063 and partners have supported the alignment of national policies, budgets, and strategies with the Declaration’s goals. This initiative emphasizes the use of local data, stakeholder engagement, and strategic prioritization to ensure resilient and impactful commitments. Against this backdrop, the side event will showcase early progress and lessons learned, highlighting tools such as the updated National Agricultural Investment Plan (NAIP) Toolkit and mechanisms for cross-country learning.

The side event aims to:

  • Showcase best practices and identify key challenges from the domestication of the Kampala Declaration in Kenya and Togo
  • Highlight the contributions of local expertise and civil society in enhancing accountability and implementation capacity
  • Explore financing instruments, institutional mechanisms, and coordination platforms that support effective implementation at the national level’s agrifood system
  • Foster dialogue among stakeholders to encourage cross-country learning and the replication of effective approaches
