"Pathways for West Africa and the Sahelian Region at local and regional levels"
The Pontifical Academy of Sciences (PAS), the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences (PASS), le Centre de Suivi Écologique (CSE), and AKADEMIYA2063 will be convening the West Africa Climate Resilience Summit.
The in‑person event will be held on March 23–24, 2026, in Dakar, Senegal under the theme “From Climate Crisis to Climate Resilience: Pathways for West Africa and the Sahelian Region at Local and Regional Levels.”
The Summit will be guided by the outcomes of the Global Summit on Innovative Solutions for Climate Resilience, organized jointly by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences on May 15–17, 2024, which recognized the need for a new and expanded approach beyond emissions mitigation to protect people and ecosystems and to engage, with global reach, at the local level. Bringing together regional science communities, mayors of cities, youth leaders, business, and civil society actors, the event will draw on insights from global and regional resilience initiatives, including PAS/PASS’s emerging Universal Protocol for Climate Resilience.
Beyond conference reporting and platform forming, the summit will contribute to the regional and local planning and adaptation, with a focus on financing resiliency and the adoption of implementation methods and structured inputs to be included in the blueprint for climate resilience and the Universal Protocol for Climate Resilience.
